casino visit only. actually won a little. played the slots over 1 hour and never saw a cocktail girl. nuff said. i went back to the nugget. i dont know about food or rooms but casino service always tells the tale.

Stayed this time and found the rooms good and the staff friendly.

Great comps through Boyd. Drinks came fast, the casino was good to me, the cafe was good and reasonable. I like the connection to MSS. EZ to get to the best buffet downtown. Just a short trip to the room for a nap. Always clean.

Yes........I will be back anytime Boyd asks me.

THE CALIFORNIA HOTEL AND CASINO IS THE WOTH PLACE TO BE , WE MADE A RESERVATION FOR 2 ROOMS AND WE WERE THERE ON APRIL 4 2008,MY 8Y DAUGHTER WAS EXCITED TO PLAY IN THE POOL, AS THEY ADVERTISED THEY HAVE A POOL, AND I MADE SURE THE POOL IS OPENED BY CALLING THE CASINO 800 NUMBER. WHEN WE GOT THERE AND AFTER CHEKING IN , WE ASKED FOR DIRECTIONS TO THE POOL ,THEY TOLD US THE POOL IS CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS, AND THE MANAGER AT THE FRONT DESK WAS RUDE AND CRUDE,THE MANAGER TOLD ME THESE WORDS ( EVEN IF THE POOL WAS OPEN I AM SURE YOU WILL NOT LIKE IT ) WE FELT THEY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF US AND WE WERE MISSLED BY THE CALIFORNIA CASINO, THEN THE NEXT DAY WE WAKE UP AT THE CLEANING LADY (ROOM SERVICE) OVER OUR BEDS AT 8:15 AM IS THAT A DREAM ??? SHE WAKES US UP , SHE WANTS TO CLEAN THE ROOM, NO IT WAS NOT A NIGHTMARE . THE ROOM SERVICE WANTS US OUT NOW . I SAID WHAT THE HECK IT IS NOT 12:00PM YET THE CHECK OUT TIME, THEN SHE LEFT TO THE NEXT ROOM WHICH IS OURS TO WAKE US UP AGAIN FROM THE NEXT DOOR , BY THE WAY THE ROOMS WERE DIRTY THE PILLOWS ARE DIRTY AND THE BATHROOM WALLS AND FLOOR ARE DIRTY . WE WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS CHICKEN CAGE .

In Vegas for a weekened business trip. Low budget so needed somewhere not too expensive but still a good value. Should have chosen circus circus when it came to this mascarade! I made reservations a few months in advance for just a queen size bed. Well the idiot apparantly put me down for a suite and ordered blue man concert tickets without my consent!! What kind of joke is that. I dont even like the Blue man group.. No king bed size rooms were available. I had to go with a room with queens and in smoking. Not only that.. they couldnt refund the tickets nor did they try!

I got to my room which was atleast decent, if you like the smell of old stingy men stinking of cigarretes. I left immediately and went to get something to eat.. I had heard good things about Pirates Pasta, so maybe this would be an upside of the trip. The server seemed decent and as soon as he was walking up to my table with my plate.. he accidently spilled in all over the floor and said he would be right back. Well a few minutes later another server walked by and said "Looks like your food decided to walk the plank!" and laughed as he walked off. 10 minutes go by.. no server, noone to clean up the mess. 20 minutes later.. I asked another server to speak to a manager and he said I will get one. I managed to catch his name off his tag just incase i had to bring it up.. well 10 minutes later.. no sign of my server, no sign of alex, nor no sign of a manager. Finally I just decided to go and walk off when a server stopped me and told me I couldnt leave without paying for my food! I demanded a manager immediately, and finally got one. I told him about alex and my server and he exclaimed they had just got off shift 15 minutes ago and no one had said anything!!!!!! I got my food comped and a free coupon for a meal. So the next day I go back there I tried to use my coupon... another manager exclaimed that these can't be accepted and the manager I had received it from was fired yesterday as well!!!! What kind of circus is this place!

After my business meetings and a day in the town, it was time to go back to the room for some R and R. Well to my suprise there was someone at my door trying to get in. The family exclaimed they gave us this room, and I told them I had been here the past few days. When I got the door open non of my stuff was in the room!!!!! I called front desk and they had exclaimed that my stuff had been moved to another room!!!! After 3 hours of getting a new key and figuring out where my stuff was I just wanted to get out of this place.

When they say California Hotel.. I didnt realize it was a replica of the Oakland Ghetto!!!

The Cal. is our favorite place for VP. It is very good with comps.,Slot Host Robyn Cordava is friendly and very helpful. Hotel guest and others that visit the casino are very friendly. We have been a fan of the Pasta Pirate & Redwood Bar and Grill for years.

After three visits to Las Vegas, this was my first trip to the California. And I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. Though we only visited the casino, there were 6 of us who all agreed that we enjoyed our time there and would certainly go again. The drink service was very good, and they had a nice selection of viseo poker and slot machines. I'm glad we decided to take time out for the California on this trip.

we stayed in the hotel last year and the room were very nice. we played mostly in this casino that year. in the mean time i find it very disturbing when i have to wait half an hour for my beverage( it wasn't even alcohol) . if i were to stay there again i difinately can identify the cocktail server who made me wait so long for my drinks. she didn't do it to me once, but twice!!! i wouln't mind to stay in the hotel but to play there? i don't think so.

Just returned from a 7 night stay at The Cal. It was our first stay there since July of 2001. Had a great time, won big $$ on the slots. I don't know why some people think the slots here are tight, we have had just the opposite experience. It's gambling, and it's all about being in the right place at the right time. You win some, you lose some. All I know is in the past when we'd lose on the strip we would go to the Cal and make it back up. I used to gamble at Harrah's until they changed out our favorite machines. We had comped nights at Rio on this trip and literally saw very few people with credits on their slot machines, whereas at The Cal you could walk through at any given time and see numerous people with hundreds, if not over a thousand dollars in credits on their machines and then they'd hit the jackpot on top of that.

Since our last stay here in 2001, the rooms have been redone. There was newer furnishings in our room, the bath tub and floor tile have been redone; Strong water pressure, hot water, no slow drains, etc. The only thing not good that I noticed was the carpet hasn't been changed since our last stay, so they are hopefully going to be changing that out soon. They left a notice that they were renovating their rooms and to pardon the construction noise between the hours of 7am-4pm, but we didn't really hear anything -- and we were literally crawling into bed at 6 am some days! The beds were firm, brand new and comfortable. They could use newer pillows but since the bed was so good this was really a non issue. The casino even seemed less smokey than I remembered it, and I have bad asthma so I notice the smoke right away. (Of course if you are sitting right next to someone who is smoking, you can't really get away from it.)The noro virus scare is over. This is the first trip I've taken in years of going to Vegas in which I DID NOT get sick, so I wouldn't worry about it. (I got more sick in January of this year from staying on the strip, so go figure.)

Let's face it, most people go to Vegas and get very little sleep, eat irregularly and oftentimes much richer foods than they would normally be eating, etc. Add to that constantly touching money (Lord knows where that's been)and buttons, knobs, cards, dice, etc., that have come in contact with Lord knows how many hundreds or thousands of other people, and it's no wonder people get sick. Just take the standard precautions of washing your hands regularly and have fun.

The Cal is just a few steps away from Fremont St Experience. Just go out the back door. Las Vegas Club and Binions are kitty corner to the back of the Cal which makes it very convenient to all that Fremont St has to offer. We were able to walk over to gamble at several other properties and watch the show on the canopy.

We had a great visit and decided we are going stay and play at The Cal where they appreciate our level of play and show it by offering us RFB comped.(And they still have our favorite machines!)

Great place for reasonable gambling with great comps.

Well I joined my family from Hawaii for 4 days & 3 nights. The tower rooms connected to Main St Hotel were allot more spacious with bigger bathrooms. Air Condition was perfect now that Vegas is heating up 85 degrees & rising. Our maid service was excellent, she cleaned our room in the morning (went to have breakfast for about 1.5 hrs and came back to room and it was cleaned and stocked with fresh towels. So we tipped everyday while we were there. Excellent job! Despite hearing about Norwalk vision hitting the hotel several weeks prior to our trip so of made us nervous but fortunately nothing happened to us in anyway, so I believe California really took care of that problem and my family appreciated how serious this matter was to them. It was cool to meet others from Hawaii especially from the same neighborhood, who would ever think meeting people who live a blocked away from our home in Hawaii. The slots were paying out especially the $.25 machines near the escalators on ground floor, made over $700.00 by just depositing $25.00, well I guess I made $675.00 off the machine...however, don't like the craps odds, double odds only when Main Street & Plaza Hotel offered 20x and 10x odds respectively, so I played craps at those casinos and had more people playing there too, much more fun.
