Blair House Hotel

- Good Visit I accidentally stumbled across the Blair House Suites recently while booking a room for a convention. When I called, the staff was very friendly and courteous. I'm a non-smoker, but because I booked late, only smoking rooms were available. In desperation, I accepted. Arriving after midnight, the staff at the front desk was cheerful and helpful. Armed with my Febreze to deodorize the room, I was shocked to find that there was not a hint of stale cigarette smoke anywhere in the room! The rooms are very clean and there is maid service everyday. The rooms are all basically the same, except my room did not have a TV in the bedroom. Not at big deal because I was dead-tired after long days at the convention and walking the strip. How much time do you really spend in your room in Vegas anyway? The living room has a TV with about 70 cable channels, a small sofa, and a love seat. There is a full kitchen with an oven and refridgerator, but no microwave. There is a coffee maker and mugs with complimentary coffee, but no other dishes, bowls, or utensils are provided. There is a lounge in the lobby with free coffee, newspapers, and computers with Internet access ($3.00 for 30 minutes), but no food is available (as of yet). The swimming pool is nice, but the jacuzzi still didn't work. Just about everything is within walking distance from the hotel. To the west, the closest major hotel on the strip (about a 5 minute walk) is the Stardust. There is a bus stop and trolley stop near that location. There is a Denny's, McDonald's, Walgreen's, and other restaurants, shops, and convenience stores in the area. The convention center and monorail station is to the east about a 10-15 minute walk away. I felt very safe walking alone, even late at night. Since I was there during a big convention, the rooms were $85 a night for Friday and Saturday and $75 a night the rest of the time, with no weekly rate. It's not owned by any of the large hotel chains and run by people who actually care about the customer. The manager of the facility was helping to check people out during a busy time. Later, he was helping one of the maids clean a room. I jokingly commented about him doing everything and cheefully said, "You have to do whatever it takes when you're running a small place." In a way, I almost hate to spread the word about this place, but it is very safe, quiet, clean, and a great bargain. If you're on a budget, this is the place to stay!
