We were there on the first day of the year because everything was sold out and price were more than $500 in many other places. They had many rooms and they did not check us in until later on and room was not ready. It took more than few hours to get the room ready after we checked in. Room was not clean... burn marks everywhere ... window was dirty and curtain was falling everywhere and ripped from the ceiling. called front desk to fix that and after 24 hours it was not fixed. we were missing personal belonging after maid cleaner the room. maid was pocketing stuff that was left behind from previous guest instead of sending it to front desk. No one was friendly... no one wanted to give any service at... everyone was very bitter and i understand it was very busy but very poor management. We would never stay there. Moved to Caesars Palace for two more nights and it was great. The palace was much busier but their service was better and prompt. Do your self a favor and reserve your room early and stay at Caesars... you will enjoy it.

Stayed 5/15-5/19/08, Iam not a hight roller but was comped for the whole time. Room wa very clean, and had everything a every day person could have wanted. Not as close to other places as in the past but will not be that way for long. Now if you feel like you are a big shot this is not the place for you. Very good casino every thing you could want with out a high price name. will be back next month.

Very poor customer service.
Hotel lost water, no flush toilets, water to wash hands, bathe, brush teeth, shave....And no complimentary water from hotel, options or compensation.

Stay away. Not worth the price.

Check in was fast, and our room was ready on the 7th floor and was spacious and clean. Ate at Kady's Coffee Shop and got the T-Bone special for 12.99 and it was great. Had dinner at Kristophers Steakhouse one night and got the Chef special which was NY Strip and Red King Crab Legs and it was a chef's dream-WOW, wonderful meal. We went to see the Riveria Comedy Club and it was very funny, so the Riveria was a wonderful fun time with low wins in the casino. Across the street was Slots of Fun and it was a great place with some wins and wonderful energetic atmosphere which added to the wonderful visit in Vegas.

The RIV---What can I say, an aging resort with no clue on what customer service is or how you can attract customers. The place is like a resort in the Catskills or Poconos--overpriced food and drink, a room not as comparable to a Holiday Inn Express (in fact Days Inn sums it up), second rate entertainment, lousy pool, and rude employees. Even the gaming was lousy. Ive been to Vegas many times---but will stay far away from the Riv in the future....best part was the $40 for $20 gaming spot to get the cheesy prize!

I have stayed here 4 different times. Each time was good. I won in the casino each time. The food is ok at the food court. The rooms were clean and the price is right. I wish it were closer to the other end of the strip, but you can't have it all. I have no complaints, and would definately stay again if the price was right.

The Riviera is a great hotel & casino. My wife & I have won over $40,000.00 at the Riv & on one of our last trips, the friends we had with us won $28,000.00 on a $1.00 video poker machine when he hit a Royal Flush.I have no complaints about any of the Riv. I go to Vegas to gamble & have a good time, not to see water shows and volcanos.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!. Reading the other comments makes me laugh. To complain about the price because you brought all your damn kids... Once and for all CHILDREN DO NOT BELONG IN VEGAS!This is an adult playground.I visit 3 times a year and always go home with money. The hosts are the best.Don and Chick rock! The rooms are clean, rather large, and the refrigerator is always a plus. The comps I receive are great. On my last trip my flight home Friday morning due to snow back east. The Riv was booked yet they managed to give me a room for Friday night. which by the way brought my total comped nights to 5.Counting the days to my next trip already. So if some of the comments scare you,try it first you just might be surprised.

The only thing I can figure is there must be people out there LOOKING for problems and things to bitch about. I stayed at the Riviera. Now, several times. Even though I was in the "old section" which hasn't been upgraded recently like much of the rest of the rooms, it was very clean- great maid service, everyone was nice, no trays sitting in the hallways. I agree with another person who posted recently- do these people really stay here? They have the best slot club around. OK, the buffet was average, but certainly found some good food. Katy's has a great meal. Their food court has a good variety- Hound Doggies has specials like no place else. Slot host was excellent. I don't know what more you could want!

This is so funny! Before I left I had read all the comments here and was more than a little concerned. After getting back I wonder how many of those people have actually stayed in a bad hotel! We got in at 4pm and got our room right away with no problem. We were in the Monaco tower, room 4522 and the room was great! This room was by far nicer and cleaner than the room I had at New York New York a year ago. Yes, it is smaller than some other hotels (that alone dosn't make the room "bad") but the room looked new, nice fresh carpet and wallpaper, very clean, even the marble style tile and counters in the bathroom. Never saw one bug as some people have stated. I had no problem drinking the water! Maid service was great, I never saw any room service tray left for days in the hallways as posted here by some people. As far as the location, well, it's right across from Slots-O-Fun and Circus Circus but anywhere else you have to either walk or take the bus. The DUCE bus picks up and drops off right in front of the hotel and $5 for a 24 hour pass lets you ride the buss not only up and down the strip as often as you like but also downtown to Freemont Street. Sure, the Casino dosn't have a theme like Excalibur, Paris or New York New York but it has lots of newer slots and is layed out well. It's also nice that you don't have to walk "half a mile" from the sidewalk just to get to the Casino like Bally's, Bellagio, Wynn and many others. As far as KADY'S restaraunt, the food was excellent and the staff very polite and friendly! We ate there twice it was so good. You can also print a buy one get one dinner free coupon right from their web site . They have a 16 ounce T-bone steak special for $9.99 and I was a little hesitent based on steak specials sometimes tending to be a cheap, tough piece of meat but the steak I got was tender and melted in my mouth! I couldn't have cooked a better steak at home myself! It was also not a "thin" piece of meat but thick and did not have fat or any grisle! The meal also came with choice of soup or salad, choice of potato (I had mashed with gravy but you could get baked potato or fries) and vegeable of the day. The waiter even brought us extra dinner rolls without even being asked. We did eat at the buffet for breakfast one morning and that is a weak point. Food was good and the omlets made to order were great but there could have been a better selection for the $10.99 price that was charged. We had a better breakfast buffet at the Sahara that also included regular lunch items (at 9:30am) for less money. TIP: If you go to the Sahara buffet, first stop by the Riviera food court and you can find coupon books that will include a coupon for $1 off the Sahara buffet - we didn't find these coupons until we had already eaten there. Also, if you are looking for any merchandise that has "Riviera" on it, even their LOGO shop dosen't have any. Not even t-shirts. I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again and again! This was an excellent place to stay (and I have stayed at Circus Circus, Ceaser's, New York New York, Aladdin, Excalibur, Stratosphere and the Mirage on past trips). I don't know what past people have run into based on their posts here but I had no problems at all, just the opposite!

Sixth trip to Vegas, but first to stay at Riviera. Was very nervous after reading the terrible reviews on this site. Found hotel to not be at all like described. Stayed in Rm 517 in Mediterranean North tower. Rec'd preference of non-smoking with king bed. Room decor was neutral and clean. Grout was a bit cracked in the bathroom and toilet ran a bit slow, but that has been true at the previous places. Must be a Vegas thing.
Casino had nice variety of card games and slot machines. Variety of slot machine denominations including a whole area with penny machines. Seemed to pay out as well as anywhere.
We ate at Hound Doggies, Kady's coffee shop, Ristorante Italiano and the food court. Note the food court restaurants must change regularly because there were 3 printouts w/ different places listed and none was accurate. This visit they had a A&W/KFC, Jade Dragon, LaSalsa, Quiznos, PizzaHut, CheeseSteak Etc, and Boba's IceCream & Donuts. Food was okay in each. Hound Doggies is quite a bargain with many 99cent items. It's a bit hidden though.
Lots of show offerings including a Neil Diamond tribute, LaCage, American Storm (male strippers), Comedy Club, and Barbra and Frank tribute. Only saw comedy show, but it was very good.
Would stay there again.

Our 4th stay since May 04, we have been rated since then & my Host Carol White has always been excelelnt & helpful. Got to the property @ 11am & our room was ready, except the in-room safe never worked. Everything was great until I went to the hosts office. One inside a host named Don seemed too bus to really be bothered, & when I asked for Carol he said she was no longer there, I asked who was my new host & he said, not sure, and wasn't really worried about finding out for me. I think if thy change hosts, they should al least alert the hosts patrons. Already booked for the Sahara next year, time to try something new.

I stayed here because my parents stayed in this hotel a while back. The room was just ok. The counter top in the bathroom was in bad need to be replaced. The water in the restroom was not drinkable. We had to keep buying bottled water in order to just be able to have water to drink. The casino was ok. The check in was also electronic. We had no one available to ask questions of about where our room was and if it was even ready. Next time I go to Vegas I will try staying a different hotel.

Ridiculously crowded with conventioneers.
Everything suggests that the Riv' is a mere shadow of what it once was.

We've been going to Vegas one or two times a year the past 12 years. The past 6 years, we've stayed at the Westward Ho (so you know I'm not REAL picky, I just need a clean room). Unfortunately, the Ho is no longer with us. The Riviera, sent us a "4 days 3 nights" room offer with a free show. (They apparently acquired the customer list and this has been deemed the new home for Ho players.)
After using the shower, my husband noticed small bugs coming out from behind the wall paper. When he was up through the night, he noticed a cockroach running across the floor when he turned the light on. We got up, packed our bags and checked out. The desk person asked why we were checking out so soon. My husband told him about the bugs in the room. The clerk said "well your rooms were comped anyway". Didn't even offer to get the manager or apologize. We went up to Harrah's and told them what had happened and they gave us a junior suite at the $55.00 room rate. Way to go Harrahs.

I stayed here for a convention because it was cheap and walking distance to Las Vegas Convention Center. Low price and location are the only benefits. The Riviera is a motley assortment of mostly older cinder-block buildings that are overdue for an implosion. The lobby and casino look tired. The top-billed entertainment is a sleazy strip-tease operation. The service in the bar is terrible. I actually left the bar because the bartender ignored me. Food service trays sit in the hallways for days. The corridors look dingy and dirty. My room was old, tired and need of updating. The only plus, you can open the windows to air the joint out. I got lucky...coworkers rooms were much worse. The breakfast restaurant was not bad if overpriced and the only operation with decent service. It has a nice view over a pleasant pool area and the historic 50 year old facade of the original hotel. There is convenient and cheap souvenir shopping in the arcade area./ My advice: Stay here only if you have to and only if it's dirt cheap.

This was our first visit to Vegas. We had a excellent stay at the Riveria. I was a little worried after reading some of the reviews but we had a GREAT time.
Check in was easy and quick. We had a strip view room that was good. My husband had a very loose slot machine. Overall the whole experience was so great we are returning to Vegas in June.

Our stay was good. When we checked in we told the clerk that we were celebrating a special birthday along with a $10 tip and she gave us a free upgrade to a petite suite. The room was spacious with fridge, wet bar, and leather sofa & love seat.

We have no complaints with service then again we didn't ask for much. The waitresses were attentive, even in the penny and nickel slot area. We did hear lots of complaints from friends who were staying with us there and they weren't happy. Mainly that the employees were not friendly and service was poor. My opion, the management is the problem in this hotel. When you have good management, you have happy and helpful employees.

The only reason that we won't come back is the location. We prefer staying at Imperial Palace and it's area (midstrip). It was tough getting to any good action at this end of the strip.

We have never stayed at "that end" of the strip before so we were a little nervous. Now, I will know better to listen to my gut feelings. For those of you who think that it is the "people who think they are staying at the Bellagio" who write bad reviews, I will let you know that I have stayed at the Plaza downtown, Mirage, Monte Carlo and Imperial Palace and not one of those places compared to the menace of this hotel. The service was 100% the worst. We had 6 couples for a wedding party and 3 of those 6 couples had things stolen out of their rooms. Here is a list of items that were taken: cell phone charger, nightlight, camera bag, camera memory card, and 2 Playstation2 games. Let me give a quick run-down of the management there. First, they are all named "Alma" from the hotel manager to the housekeeping manager. They all say different things and put it back on the opposite manager. They tell you they will investigate and give you a call back but your phone never rings. They do not offer to do anything else for you except one lady, not Alma, said that she would let us get a new phone charger "out of the lost and found bin" that matched our phone but that never happened because Alma didn't know anything about that. They have no procedures to follow for anything. We were told that WE should keep calling back and checking to see if anything was found. Yes, lets put it all on your guests. We finally ended up keeping our DO NOT DISTURB on our door for fear of losing something else. (We also locked things up in our luggage.)

I agree with other reviews that the plumbing is not sufficient in this hotel. Our first room (5625) pelted out water from the shower head and you could not change that. Also, I was woke up at 6:30am because a man checked in to the room next to us and talked on his phone. Yes, the walls are that paper thin. I tried to give the benefit of the doubt because who spends that much time in their rooms anyway? Our second room (5430-petite suite that WE paid for) was a little better except the toilet didn't seem to want to flush.

Room service trays would stay outside of the rooms in the hallways for at least 12-16 hours. I know mine stayed out until I put a bag of trash on it.

This was by far the worst trip to Vegas that I have ever had and it started with the place we chose to stay. And this hotel could care less about what anyone has to say because they still have uninformed travelers who want to pay a little less (like $100) to stay somewhere. So, my suggestion to you... Pay the extra $$ to stay somewhere else. You don't want it to end up costing you more because of the items that you may need to replace. You may recieve some customer service from another hotel which is something that this hotel has never heard of. Good luck and Happy hotel hunting.

I graciously accept the shortcomings of economy lodging with the expectation of cleanliness and courtesy as the minimum requirements.
The Riviera has neither of the afore mentioned attributes.
After the first night's stay, my wife and I noticed what appeared to be insect bites all over our bodies. The next night we actually experienced the sensation of being bitten in the bed in our room (#449).
I called to report the incident and was confronted with a young man who asked my wife to remove her pants so he could photograph the bite marks. I intervened and stopped him from continuing with this inappropriate behavior and tried to explain that the bites that were visible without disrobing would have to be sufficient. I did, however let him view my bites on my legs as this was "gender appropriate".
They moved us to another room and the biting stopped.
Upon attempting to speak to this matter with the manager, I was met with hostility and was treated as if I were lying about the whole incident. I offered to meet with her and show her the marks (which were swollen by now), but she refused.
She explained that they had their exterminator look at the room and that they found no insects present. I asked if it would be possible to speak with the exterminator and she informed me that not only was that not possible, but she could not divulge his identity. She insinuated that the issue we were suffering from was likely associated with our lifestyle and that there was no way we could prove that the Riviera was responsible for the bites. She offered, as condolence, that bed bugs are not disease carriers.
The day after we were moved to the new room (which was filthy) I called the occupants of our previous room and informed them of the problem we had encountered. The lady I spoke with said that she could smell bug spray and had been curious about the smell.
Within a half hour, the hotel's assistant manager had the audacity to call our room. She very glibly informed us that the occupants had been transferred to another room. I responded by stating, "You're awfully good at covering your ass." and she laughed and said, "Yes we are..."
The hotel's final "offer" to us was 3 nights comped, upon our signature of a waiver of claim regarding this issue. I asked the manager if she truly feels that the hotel has no liability or blame in the matter, then why is a waiver of claim necessary? She responded that it is hotel policy and added that if I pursue the matter she will "vigorously" defend her position in court. She added that her boss is an attorney.
All in all I felt as if she was trying to intimidate me into accepting this "offer" releasing them from liability.

My advice to everyone.... STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE !!!!!!!!

I must say that was the worst night-mere to stay in this hotel.
I'm not a person usually upset about little things, maybe it was a little bit dirty, stinky, not fancy...and i
can accept that.

However, I cannot accept HOW HOTEL MANAGES the customers. The hotel mistakably cancel our 2nd
night reservation, it is still acceptable, but it blamed us for canceling, forged signature(and of course
they lost the first contract with us), gave the room for another customer while our baggages are still in
the room, and kicked us out around midnight. We had a receipt of the reservation, but hotel never
admit their mistake.

What if we had a kids? What if I was sick or pregnant? Apparently it was none of the concern for the
hotel. They must found the better customer to book, so they decided to cancel our room and give it to
them. No applogies, no refferals to another hotel or the room. I've never experienced this with any
other hotel, even the cheapest motel.

And it was not only us, we've seen another couple, group of people including grandmother and kids...
they had worse situation. Our baggages were still in the room, but their baggages were through OUT
SIDE OF THE ROOM witout warning, or nothing.

So just don't go there, not only to avoid those problems, but also those hotel just doesn't deserve to
sustain in the business.

Stayed at the Riv because the conference I was attending was there. Had stayed here in 1998, and can say things have been updated. Had rooms in the Monaco tower, which is convienient to convention areas. Didn't notice any strange smells or odors in the room. Room was cleaned daily. From check in to check out all staff were helpful and friendly.Yes the casino area is old,and doesn't have as many new machines as some other casinos. Played nickel and quarter slots for 2-3 hours each day got close to $100 back on slot card points promotion, and $100 of room charges comped. The Riv is not the place to stay if you want the mega resort ambience and action. It is a good value for the money.

The only reason we stayed at the Riv was because of the convention we were attending. The desk clerk seemed annoyed that we needed her assistance to check in. We didn't get a non smoking room as requested but were told we could change our room the next day. The room smelled BAD. Kind of like a bathroom smell, but not as pleasant. We normally stay at the GOLD COAST (which we will be going back to on our next visit to LV) and are used to their prices. I'm not a cheap person, but $45 for breakfast, at Kady's Coffee Shop, seems a bit much. I have to admit, the $9.95 steak special was pretty good and you can use the 2 for 1 coupon available on their website. The rooms at the Riv are pretty worn out. The bathroom seems to be falling apart at the seems. And just a warning, DON'T go in there without your shoes on, you'll stick to the floor. Apparently mopping the floor isn't on their list of things to do. The second room did smell much better, but still the bathroom was falling apart. We stayed in the Monaco Tower which is quite a hike to the casino. However, it wasn't as bad as the Luxor. The Luxor is so confusing, it took up most of my gambling time just to leave my room and make my way to the gambling floor. The one good thing about the Riviera are the elevators. Our wait time to go up or down was very short, maybe 30 seconds. All in all, our stay was okay, but like I said before, I will stay at the Gold Coast the next time I go to Vegas. P.S. Casino was a bit tight. I won a couple of times on the slots, but for the most part, they got quite a bit of my money.

I always find it so funny when I read reviews of the Riviera Casino. My fiancee and I have stayed at this place three times throughout the past few years and have always had a great experience. We arrived on a Friday morning, check in was automated and very simple. We received a decent room in the Monaco towers (please ask for this tower) if checking in with an attendant. Hotel was clean, cocktail waitresses were absolutely awesome and the gambling could have been a lot worse.

This is not a hotel which caters to the high rollers. It is a moderate hotel which resembles the Vegas of old. We enjoy it here after a long afternoon south of the strip and consider it a place where we can kick back, play some tables, slots etc. and relax. I assume that many negative reviews come from individuals who believe they are staying at a casino on par with that of the Bellagio or Venetian, and quite simply are set back by the fact that this hotel does not have the same sort of quality of those farther south on the strip. What people do forget however, is the fact that the Riv still has a lot to offer those who are looking to enjoy themselves on a moderate budget, spend little time in their room and could care less if the entrance is loaded with flowers or the pool has fountains.

Don't let negative reviews scare you off. The Riviera continues to be my home casino in Vegas and I wouldn't have it any other way.

We stayed four nights and we're pleased with the service and the staff the entire time of our stay. The room (Monaco Tower)was clean and kept up to date. The only complaint I had was the pillows, flat as pancakes!I had heard about rudeness in the cafes, maids, bellhops, desk clerks, etc.,but we never encountered anything like that. The show Splash was fun,but the slots were very tight, did not win a thing. All in all it was a very enjoyable stay. The Riviera is very close to Circus Circus,Slots O Fun, Westward Ho, and Stardust, plus we rode the trolley all day for $5 up and down the strip.Great value!!

Don't be suckered into the free slot play promotion that they offer for new slot club signups .you end up having to play out all the credits only on one machine but you cannot cash out or keep any winnings

My wife and I have travelled a lot in 35 years of business and pleasure travel. This particular visit started as an invitation from a nationally advertised time share company. We agreed to come listen to their presentation and they agreed, among other things, to put us up for 3 nights which happened to be at the Riviera. We planned on arriving on Sunday but had tickets to see Celine Dion at Caesars on Friday night so once I found out where the time share company was going to put us up I contacted them and extended the stay. I did do some research on the Riviera and was a little apprehensive. I did take the time before we left to go to Vegas to email their reservations desk and ask some questions and make a few requests. We were very pleased when check-in took only a few minutes with polite people helping us and we were given a nice, rather large room. No, the Riviera is not one of the newer mega resorts but we have never stayed anywhere where the rooms were any cleaner. View was nice as well. We tipped the maid $5 every day and she would do anything for us. The Riviera buffet has an excellent breakfast and you can find discount coupons for their buffet nearly anywhere in Vegas. The other restaurants we ate at were good as well. Only complaint we had was constantly being approached by other time share companies within the hotel but you find this in nearly every hotel in Vegas to one degree or the other. Great stay and we will return.

Me and a friend stayed here the first week in feb. Overall the Riviera is a low frills, basic place to sleep property. Valet park for hotel check in may as well be eleminated. There is a 15 minute time allotment. We pulled up and were totally ignored be the 3 bellhops and had to bring our bags in ourselves. Check-in was the worse I've ever experienced. They have several self-check in kiosks at the front desk and a lot of emplyees behind the desk that do nothing but instruct you on how to use self check-in. Very in-efficient and a waste of company payroll. DIY Check-in took about 15m minutes. Check-out via the room television was fine. We stayed in the Monaco Tower. The help desk gave us instructions that led us outside, past the pool and into the room tower. The Monaco Twoer is easily accessable without going outside. The rooms were clean and average size. Bathroom and amenities were sufficient although the towels were pretty thin. Housekeeping on check-out day were annoying. They entered the room at 8:15am and at 9:30 am to get the room ready for the next guests. Needless to say, no tip was left for them. The casino had limited games open at higher than expected limits. No great odds at craps and hand dealt blackjack paid the the now normal 6-5 odds. I don't play slots so can't comment on that. I visit Las Vegas twice a year. As far as staying again, if the room rate is under $40.00 I would. Above that is not a good value.

My husband and I stayed at the Riviera over Valentine's Day weekend. We have stayed there before and had a very enjoyable time. This latest trip was no exception. Check in was simple and our room was a good size, clean, and bright, with a view of the strip, and a king sized bed. We gambled for quite awhile at the Casino each day and found the table dealers friendly and accomodating and the cocktail servers fast and efficient. Whether we were playing craps or nickel slots, we were always treated well and received quick drink service.
We went to two shows while we were there: Crazy Girls and Splash, and had a great time at both. The food at Kady's was reasonable and tasty.
I found the location easy, a ten minute walk to Treasure Island and the Fashion Show Mall. One day we took a cab down to Luxor and it was only $10.00.
We had a very memorable trip to Vegas and the Riviera did not disappoint in any way. It was a great value, we were treated well, and on the day we checked out (from the room in 5 mins), they held our bags until later in the day when we had to leave for the airport with no problem.
I would recommend the Riviera to anyone who doesn't want to deal with attitude and pretension, but enjoys having a good time on a budget.

Not a "high roller" hangout, but an excellent experience and value. I had a very good stay at this hotel. The wife and I went for 4 days and had a lot of fun on our very first Vegas stay. But of course, you get what you pay for, this is not a luxurious hotel, it is a very clean, large, confortable, value priced hotel so if you're used to bellboys carrying your bagage and being treated like a high roller, you don't want to stay at this hotel. However, all personel was very friendly and helpful whenever we asked their assistance. Check in was incredibly easy, if you have reservations, don't wait in line to check in, instead use the automatic kiosks to check in, it takes less than 5 minutes. The rooms were extremely clean and quiet, daily (friendly) housekeeping, and fast room service. They have daily comedy shows and a topless show and the occational "celebrity" show, I believe Michael Bolton is scheduled for April. :-). The Riviera is in a very good location right on the strip. The casino is huge, but a few of the card dealers were a**holes with absolutely no people skills. Most were OK though. Their slot machines seem to be pretty loose, I won a total of around $800 the very first day from 4 different machines. So if you play the slots, move around and try out several machines, they seem to pay a bit better than other casinos, at least from my experience. If you go out on the strip, avoid going out through the main Casino entrance, that's were those annoying "time share" sales people hang out. They have a big bar on the casino with very friendly bartenders. THe food there was ok, mostly fast food and buffet. Nothing fancy, but they have quite a few restaurants in the premises. Overall... I give this hotel a good rating.

Arrived shortly before check in and stood in line. Must say I didnt like the Kiosk for check in. You can't upgrade to a better room this way plus you need a credit card which charges $20 per day and then refunds your money if you don't trash your room. Stayed in the south Mediteranian rooms, 4th floor, nice view of the air conditioning unit, but I don't go to Vegas for the view from my room, its just a place to sleep. Hotel was nice and clean, same with the room. Casino was a good size. Jitter's Coffee was not up to parr, rude employees and the second day they were out of coffee... How does a coffee stand run out of coffee at 9am?

The place was a little on the dumpy side. The ceilings in the rooms were popcorn style spray on junk over plaster which obviously had been water damaged from an overflow on the floor above. The place itself wasn't bad, but the check in was way too long. About 30 minutes in line, and at checkout, I just left the keys in the room because the line was even longer.

If you can get by the fire alarm that rang at all hours of the day & night (4:30 am on the day I left), this is the place for you.

I stayed at the Riv for two nights on a comp. Upgraded to a suite with balcony that over looked the pool. The suite was great! Upgrade when you visit Vegas. Before you go to the Riviera go to their website and there are coupons and one is for 2 for 1 lunch or dinner entree in Katys coffee shop. Great food! Again upgrade to a suite. You get a bedroom, living room large bathroom separate shower stall, wet bar.

OK people, this is not on par with the new mega casinos on the strip, but, to be close to those, the Riveria is a very decent hotel to stay at, and for the money, is a good value. Here's the info on my stay... Check in was very fast, I got there at check in time, only 6 people in line, I used the self serve automated check in, which was very simple and fast to use-really! My room is clean, and fresh.. The bathroom was very fancy looking with nice shinny marbled floors. The room size was pretty average, wouldn't call it tiny, it was fine. The casino floor was pretty much as most of them, a wide variety of gaming, so that was fine. The Buffet was excellent, the food looked just made. Check to see if you can get a casino fun book or coupons, they offer several dollars off the cost of the buffet. The Entertainment - Can't really comment there, I haven't been to Las Vegas in seven years, and really hopped from casino to casino to see all the newer ones that have come up. The Cost: I paid thru Aol Travel for a sat night room stay at 104. a night, which by comparing other rates on the strip, was an absolute Steal. Most Hotels only offer to book you if you stay two nights on the weekend only, which would be a friday "and" saturday. So you gotta check around if your from L.A. like me, an want to stay just a saturday, try Aol Travel. Let's see, what else ? The Valet's were friendly, and fast.. The hotel/casino employees were friendly and helpful as well... Hotel check out was a breeze, you can do that via your room t.v I would stay there again, but if i could get a rate near what i paid at a newer resort, i would probably go there, but i doubt i could find such a good price, as the price of the strip hotels are so high as it is, its crazy!!!! My stay there was sept 25th,2004 Good luck people!

After reading several bad review here and a few other places I was a little apprehensive about our stay scheduled for over Labor Day. Not to worry! Every thing was fine and in some cases much better than that. Our check-in went fine, with the man at the check-in desk very helpful when we tried to get a better room (we were in the San Remo Tower and wanted to get to the Morocco Tower). He told us to come down at around ten in the morning to change rooms. Actually we decided the San Remo Tower was just fine and spent the rest of our stay right there. The rooms were just fine, the bathrooms big. I think it might depend on where your room is (old room vs new room) whether or not it is really nice. This is not NYNY or MGM so don't expect it to be. It is a fine old casino and hotel and we were very happy there. Slots were pretty loose (if you want really loose slots, go across the street to Slots 'O Fun). Be sure to sign up for the players club. The buffet was great too. You will read some bad stuff about it but we had both breakfast and dinner there and it was above average. Saw a wonderful hynotist show while we were there too. I would stay there again, anytime.

What a great experience. The only down side was checking in. It is as bad as it can get. What a wait. When it was our turn to check in, we had a very friendly young woman who after finding out they misspelled my name and lost the reservation upgraded us to a suite. Very nice and clean, great housekeeping. For the few hours I did find time to sleep, I slept like a baby in the super comfortable bed.The drink service was very good even in the nickle area. Kady's coffee shop serves meals that were perfect in everyway. The buffet was just so-so but the staff there was very friendly and curteous. The place still has a touch of the old Las Vegas class and it's a great location for going out at night to some of the places close by where a person still has a snowball's chance in hell of actually winning some money. If you want to stay at the big corporate Mega Casinos that have slots tighter than your old Aunt Sara then stay at the south side of the strip. If you want to enjoy Vegas the way was used to be, stay at the Riv. Also I have to say that the Bell Captain for helping guests leaving for home, was the greatest. Never book round trip transportation because they never show unless you have someone like the Bell Captain we had to look out for us and get our ride back to the airport on time.

Due to the large size of our Family we had to reserve two rooms for the entire week that we were staying in Las Vegas. We we decided on the Riviera because of the cost vs. location. The Children wanted to go to Circus Circus and it was next door and then the water slide is just down the street. The first thing that told me that we should have found a Motel somewhere and drove to the action was when I had to stand in line to check in that afternoon when we arrived. I counted 80 people in front of me and there were only three Rivera Employee's checking in people at the Hotel Desk. Almost two hours later I arrived at the desk. I was not happy by this time. The rooms are adequate and no more than that. Room service was good, but the tip I left all week may have made the difference. The food was not that good when we ate at the restaurnant located in the Casino compared to what could be found in other Casinos'. The upstairs buffet was a little high priced especially with me having to pay for 7 people at a time so we did not eat there this time. The two times that I ate there before many years ago I remmber to be good. Many of the Employee's in the Casino were not very happy for some reason and that made us reluctant to ask anyone anything. There were not many winners in the Casino and I was among them so my Wife and I gambled elswhere. The Casino seems to be layed out where it makes it difficult to get anywhere easily. The tower where our rooms were located was a long way from the casino action and the garage where our car was parked. This Casino/Hotel was very nice when I was there in the 70's, but in comparison to all of the new Hotels in Las Vegas and some of the old ones that have been renovated, this Casino in my opinion ranks very low. I cannot recommend this Hotel and my opinion is mostly based on bang for your buck. Try to get the most out of what your paying out and I don't think that you are getting your monies worth at this Casino compared to what you could get somewhere else.

We stayed in the monoco tower, room 5624 facing the pool about 16 floors up. great view of the pool and strip looking towards TI.
Thew room was nice, bath room was avg size, maids did a great job making up the room too.
Check in Sucks, sometimes loong lines and I mean real long lines. Because they only have 2 or 3 people checking you in and about 8 computer screans for touch cheakin. If you book the room via another web site and per paid or not using a credit card you have to wait for a person to check you in.
If you are going to the Hotel for a convention the Monoco tower is the best, real close to the convention floor and the banquet hall the top of the riv is at the top of the Monoco tower.

Ok here is my perception of our visit to LV and the Riv from 7/23-7/25. First off I would like to say that many of reviews had given me the sense that staying at the Riv was a big mistake, I couldn't have been more WRONG.

We are a mid 20's couple and quite honestly were trying to save as much money as we could, knowing that we would be doing our share of gambling. We left Vegas under our budget and are already looking into another visit in the next few months. Here are our pro's and con's.

PROS

1. The hotel does not smell like vomit, in fact I thought it would have been a lot more run down. For a 50 year old hotel I was impressed.

2. The check in-out system took us 5 minutes...no lines what so ever and all I needed was my credit card for registration. We were also given a room in the Monaco tower and a nice King size bed. Hotel room was very clean and nice and close to the pool.

3. The drink comps were absolutely awesome. The ladies made sure that I never went without a drink in my hand. This was the only hotel where my girlfriend and I didn't have to search for a drink. Note: She was drinking free martini's all day and we rarely moved from the 25 cent slot machines. I was very impressed with the service here and everywhere else in the hotel. Everyone was more than helpful.

4. While the casino did eventually take our money we were able to play quarter and dollar slots all evening without going back to the bank machine. We could throw in a 5 dollar bill and sometimes play for an hour. I was impressed with the pay-outs.

5. We ate at Kady's twice and at the food court. Kady's had some great prices and I was surprised at the quality of the food for the ammount we were paying.

6. Across from the Riv is a little play area called Slots of Fun. This was a great place that had $1 dollar blackjack and waitresses that made sure you also had a drink in your hand. I recommend for those who want to play on the tables for cheap.

7. My girlfriend liked the pool and the fact that it wasn't packed to the point where all you could do is wade. We were able to grab drinks here as well, but I must warn you they are NOT FREE.

8. The greatest part about staying at the Riv, is their players club. Like I mentioned above about the casino's, were could play quite awhile on little cash. In the end we were both able to accumulate enough points to enjoy to free headline shows or 2 free nights in a regular room for our next visit. Make sure you grab a player's card before you start gambling. CANT LEAVE WITHOUT GETTING SOMETHING FOR FREE:)

CONS

1. Yes, the Riv is a good 15-20 minute walk to Ceasars and the like and with the heat it wasn't all that fun. They do have a monorail system that takes you to the hilton, more or less a couple blocks from the Riv. I would suggest using the monorail if you plan on heading to the center of the strip.

2. If you are looking for an elaborate hotel with all the goodies, you are staying at the wrong place. There are no waterfalls in the pool, no gimic shows at the front of the hotel and no gardens or elaborate architecture inside the gaming area. If you are looking for these things then pay for a theme hotel.

If you want to stay on the strip for a great price, want free drinks without moving to hunt down a waitress, don't have a fortune to blow at the tables and slots, like the idea of getting something for free (player's club) and feel that in the late evening you would like a place you feel comfortable without the masses of people, then I recommend the Riv.

Thanks Riviera.

Unfortunately, I'm having to return to The Riviera tomorrow. My first visit was the same time last year because I'm playing in the Billiard Congress of America National 8-Ball Championships. I was hoping that the BCA would finally move the tournament to a new location, but they haven't made the decision on where to move it as yet. I'm hoping I won't find this hotel as crappy as last year, but I'm sure it's the same (some co-workers just returned from a conference at the Riv and they said it sucked!).

What I found last year was this. The hotel staff is rude as h-e-doublehockeysticks. I watched a bellhop curse a guest out because they couldn't move their luggage out of the way fast enough. The waitress in Kady's lounge, where we ate our first meal, was beyond grouchy and rude. The rooms are old and stink like poop. The maid came when we were out, and when she didn't find a tip in her envelope, she refused to leave clean towels. That's okay though because we sent a teammate for towels and we didn't have to tip her. The worst part of all was being 2,500 miles from home and realizing that the phone in your hotel room would not be turned on unless you put down a $50 deposit. I live in a resort town and can't imagine one of our hotels (even the Motel 6) requiring a deposit to have a phone in your room. Also, I called the hotel ahead of time and asked about whether there was an iron and ironing board in the rooms. I was told they "probably" did. They of course did not! We had to call and ask for them to be sent up to the room. I was under the impression that we would now have the iron to use for the rest of our stay. WRONG! When we returned to our room, they had taken it back without asking us if we would need it again. If I could figure a way to make it work, I'd bring a padlock with me and lock the iron and ironing board down on something. I think I'll take a clothes steamer with me this time.

Anyways, if you visit Vegas, don't choose The Riviera - IT SUCKS BIGTIME!

P.S. I've never seen a Burger King with a tip jar, but there's one at the Riviera's Burger King! I'm sorry, but I'm not tipping someone who stands behind a counter and does nothing but ring you up and put your food in a sack. I know this is Vegas where everything and everyone expects a tip, but GET REAL!

first time we have stayed here. Rooms were nice and when we ate, food was really good. Won a little, and help was friendly when we needed any help.
Check in was slow, as only 1 check in person, but we finally used the auto check in and that was great. We like to walk, so the walk through Casino to our Tower room was ok with us. We wud defnitally stay here again, if we were to stay on the strip again.

We stayed here for the first time Feb 5-9. The room was decent size, but very outdated. We ate at their cafe several times and enjoyed it very much. They have a great late night ham and eggs deal. We were comped 2 free show tickets when signing up for a players card and went and saw La Cage. Wasn't an outstanding show, but was ok. We like the location, and enjoy the $1 margarita's at the HO and $1 Heiniken's at Slots 'o fun.

the price was right, 25 a night. The location is too far north for me but that is a personal preference (I play poker at the Mandalay Properties at the south end of the strip, but the price here was wonderful). Not a great place but for 25 bucks I am not going to quibble. The towel rack fell off. The room was very clean and the maids did an excellent job. I tipped them 2 bucks a night.
